Greetings Taciturn Colleagues,
For any of you are Burners -- or aspire to attend Burning Man -- I'd like to announce a brand-new daily newspaper for the Playa: The Black Rock Beacon.
Up until this year, Burning Man funded the Black Rock Gazette, which appeared about six times at Black Rock City -- once on the way in, no matter which day you arrived (the Gate Edition) and then five or so daily issues during the event. For this year, the Burning Man organization has decided not to fund the daily issues of the Gazette, although it is planning to do a Gate edition.
Many of the former staff members have banded together to create the Black Rock Beacon, which we hope will be even better than the Gazette. If you are going to Burning Man and looking for something fun to do that will highlight your real-world skills, please consider joining us. We especially need reporters and editors, which is why I'm posting here. It's all volunteer, of course, but the perks are great.
We have a website at www.blackrockbeacon.org that already contains some Burning Man-related articles, with more to come. We're assigning those and some advance pieces for the Playa papers, as well as beats for Black Rock City. We're going to be producing and printing the paper on the Playa, and if you're interested in publishing, there may be some valuable insights for you as well.
If you'd like more information, message me and/or join our Tribe at theblackrockbeacon.tribe.net.

Re: Any Burners Here?
Thu, December 8, 2005 - 2:26 PMHiya Alix...I posted this well before Burning Man 2005. What we found when we got there was a Black Rock Gazette-ette, a little bit of Media Mecca-written propaganda that was distributed at the Gate. I don't know if they will attempt it again in 2006. (But we'll be back!) -

Re: Any Burners Here?
Tue, December 27, 2005 - 8:28 AMWe're current planning five on-Playa issues, same as last year. It kind of gears up in the spring, and there's a tribe you can join or monitor for details as they become available:
theblackrockbeacon.tribe.net
We'll also probably post everything on our website, www.blackrockbeacon.org (dormant 'cause our webmaster recently moved to DC from Calif.)
